One of the Saddest Days Ever

Yesterday was the saddest day ever in the life of our puppy Zoe (our little four and half pound Toy Fox Terrier who is just over two years old).

It started off with going to the vet to get her yearly shots.  That was very traumatic for her; like her daddy, she doesn't like needles.  So that was very rough.

The day just got worse.  I brought her home from the vet appointment and as I was lowering her down to the floor she jumped out of my arms and landed on her front leg just wrong and broke it.  She was probably only 3 feet at the most from the floor, but I think her muscles must have been tensed funny after all the shots or something - or maybe it was just the right (or should that be wrong?) angle to break it.  So I rushed her to my Vet's Office where the doctor had just left for the day, so I had to take her to the Animal ER.  They had to sedate her, take x-rays, and then put her leg in a splint.  A splint that is very long and awkward.  Poor baby :(

Last night was rough for her; once she finally shook off all the sedation, she seemed pretty confused about the whole leg thing.  She doesn't really like walking on just 3 legs (she mostly hobbles) and she won't go far at one time.  She's been shaking a lot, and she barely slept at all last night (and as a result, neither did I).

Monday I take her in to my vet, who will have to refer us to a doggy orthopedic surgeon, who will surgically repair the break, probably inserting a pin.   The ER vet said it would probably be 4 to 6 weeks before she has normal use of that leg again.

If you think of it, could you pray for our puppy Zoe?  I know she's "just a dog", but she's our little baby at home and we really hurt for her (and she hurts quite a bit herself).  She's such a loving and wonderful dog, it's really hard to see her in pain like this.  She just doesn't seem to know what to do, and she's definitely not herself.

Thanks!

I'll pray for your puppy. Dogs are part of our family, no matter how silly it may seem to non-dog people. And I wanted to encourage a little. My uncle's miniature poodle broke both of its front legs, and although it took time to heal, her little legs are stronger than ever and she's just as happy as she was before. So Zoe will be great! Just in a little while.

Feel better, Zoe

"Snakes?  Why'd it have to be snakes?"

I was totally thinking that when I finished my post.  :)  Is it horrible that I'm not looking forward to Indy 4?  *sigh*  Well, I guess Die Hard 4 wasn't terrible, so there's hope.

I'm so sorry about Zoe!  I feel the same way (don't laugh now) about our cats.  I never thought I'd be a cat person (and I don't really think I am), but I do love my kitties.  Keep your chin oup.
